Acrylic fibers of your handmade item are durable and resistant to color bleeding but can be damaged by harsh agitation. A gentle cycle prevents stress on the fibers, maintaining the structure of your blanket. Washing in cold or warm water avoids heat damage, as acrylic can be sensitive to high temperatures. Acrylic is synthetic and can be affected by harsh chemicals in strong detergents. Mild detergents help preserve the integrity of the fibers without causing damage or fading. Chlorine bleach can weaken and degrade the fibers over time, so non-chlorine bleach is safer and less likely to harm them, making it a better choice for occasional use. Acrylic does not absorb moisture like natural fibers and can be coated by fabric softeners, which may affect softness and create buildup that impacts texture and breathability. Dryer sheets can leave residues, affecting static control and making the fabric feel less soft over time. Acrylic fibers can be sensitive to heat, and high temperatures can cause them to shrink or distort. Drying on low heat ensures the blanket dries without risk of damage. Hanging, including line hanging to dry, can cause distortion and stretching of the fibers.
